The Vautour was renowned as the most powerful fighters and one of the fastest bomber of the mid-nineteen fifties. It was an unpredictable but tough aircreft and pilots at the Cognac base remember a IIB making a belly lanidng : it tok 80 metres to come toa standstill with half the body worn away and the pilot's feet touching the ground, but there was no fire and the whole crew emerged safely. Thee aricraft were the trusty warhorses of thr French strategic air command and had afine record at the Cognac bombing traning range.
